New Poetry Workshop Series from April 2025

The Structured Voice

On April 9, 2025, I will be starting a six-week poetry workshop series called The Structured Voice, which is based on my philosophy that Structure is your voice when you’re not present. Each session will start with analysis of an existing “canonised” poetic structure, such as a sonnet, and the reasons for its existence, then we will do some exercises and get into the meat of poetic meaning and structure.

However, the very first session, Week 1 (which can be taken as a standalone workshop) focuses on the building block of all form – the line.

Every session after the first will have at least some discussion on speaking rhythm/music, and the line, but the focus will shift as follows:

  • Week 2: scenes/idea positioning
  • Week 3: what a pause means
  • Week 4: the possibilities of space
  • Week 5: abstractions, linguistics, and creating your own form
  • Week 6: cohort presentations and feedback

Each session will last 1hr 30min and the group will be split into cohorts of 7. It is also possible to take four weeks of the course, if you are not interested in exploring developing your own form, or sharing your work and getting feedback etc.

You can sign up for the workshop here, and you can join our mailing list here
